Alissa Newton
Chair
Alissa (she/her), is an adoptive mother living in New York City, NY. Alissa is an Episcopal priest who serves the Diocese of New York as Canon to the Ordinary, and has extensive experience as a development consultant for churches and non-profits. She is also an author, teacher, and lover of all things fiction and pop culture. When she is not working or volunteering Alissa loves to travel with her family, hike in beautiful places and read all sorts of genres of fiction and non-fiction. Alissa is a strong believer in networks of support for adoptees, and is proud to be a part of building the Adoptee Mentoring Society as a resource for adoptees now and into the future.
Kevin Payne
Treasurer
Kevin (he/him), Kevin Payne is an adoptive father, residing in Seattle, WA. With over 15 years of experience in the financial industry, Kevin has helped countless individuals achieve their financial goals and has been an advocate for financial literacy. His professional success is built on a foundation of service, where he excels at building meaningful, trust-based relationships that empower others to reach their aspirations.
Outside of work, Kevin is deeply committed to his family. Whether he's teaching his children to swim at the community pool, coaching their basketball and soccer teams, or packing them into the minivan for the next family adventure (which, yes, may include a Costco run), Kevin finds joy in every moment spent together. In his independent time, Kevin enjoys exploring a wide range of hobbies that keep him active and engaged, from exercising and sports to home improvement and cooking. Whether it's playing golf, running, baking sourdough bread, landscaping, or simply being outdoors, Kevin embraces all that life has to offer.
Patrice Martin
Secretary
Dr. Patrice Martin is an adoptee advocate and nonprofit management scholar-practitioner with over twenty-five years of experience in grants and program management. Patrice’s advocacy work in the adoptee community started in 2019 after her reunification with her biological family on the hit TLC show “Long Lost Family”. Patrice’s three advocacy pillars in the adoptee community are; Media – ensuring adoptee and NPE voices are their true stories are told, Faith – Patrice is founder of the grassroots movement the Adoptee Prayer Collective; which holds an online space for Adoptees and others to pray, meditate and hold space with each other before God; Legislation – Patrice uses her voice to advocate before legislative bodies, most recently testifying in both the Tennessee State and Colorado State House of Representatives in opposition to HB 2067 and HB 24-083 – a bills that appropriated resources expand the use of safe haven baby boxes in Tennessee and Colorado. She has also been a guest on many podcasts concerning adoptee rights.
Throughout her career in business, she has raised the capacity of many multi-million dollar organizations through the implementation of various fundraising, policy and process management initiatives centered on compliant grants management practice. She also serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Business and Social and Behavioral Sciences at Wilmington University. Patrice has a has a Doctor of Business Administration D.B.A. degree from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware. an M.S. in Nonprofit Management from the Robert Morris University School of Business, a B.A. in Sociology, and a B.A. in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Patrice She also remains connected with community initiatives by serving as a pro-bono grant consultant and board member for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Mercer and Burlington County in New Jersey. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Alisha Goel
Alisha (she/her), is an attorney based in Atlanta, Georgia, where she represents plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury matters and businesses in complex commercial litigation disputes. Outside of her legal practice, Alisha enjoys engaging with professional and community organizations, mentoring young attorneys, and exploring new ways to contribute to causes close to her heart.
Alisha earned her Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and her undergraduate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Before law school, Alisha worked as an Events and Partnerships Associate at a foster care agency in Seattle, Washington. In that role, she organized workshops and trainings to support foster families, participated in child welfare coalitions, and managed the organization’s partnerships. While in law school, Alisha interned at Children’s Rights, a nonprofit that supports foster care and child welfare systems across the country. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about mentorship, community engagement, and fostering connections that uplift and empower others.
